WTAO - Sp119 got his information from:

Search Argument - JDZ

Per AOandG reporting - The JDZ discovery went from 3 Tcf to 1 Tcf.

03/06/2010 - New model needed after gas in Joint Development Zone - ERHC (Africa Oil and Gas) - 128 (aog v31-11 3june-text____0023)
As previously revealed by AOG (see 25 March 2010), the five-well drilling campaign by Sinopec and subsidiary Addax Petroleum last year in the JDZ gave disappointing results, not only due to the fact that it was gas rather than oil but also because of the quantities discovered - only 1 Tcf.
25/03/2010 - JDZ future in doubt as wildcat gas reserves dwindle (Africa Oil and Gas) - 128 (aog v13-6 25march-text____0011)
The future of exploration in the much vaunted joint development zone (JDZ) is in jeopardy after a total of only 1 Tcf of gas reserves were found in the recent five well wildcat campaign, AOG has learnt.
Senior figures have confirmed to AOG that analysis of the wells in the shared zone between Nigeria and Sao Tome & Principe (STP) is now worse than even previously thought, with the current recoverable reserves figure not even able to support a small LNG o ...
10/12/2009 - Addax 5th well in gas rich JDZ (Africa Oil and Gas) - 64 (aog v12-25 10december-text____0027)
Addax 5th well in gas rich JDZ
Addax Petroleum has spudded the fifth and final well in the current exploration programmed in the Joint Development Zone which is proving the region to be gas rich.
This week the firm started drilling the Oki East well on Block 4 using the Deepwater Pathfinder drillship.
26/11/2009 - Oando near Equator Exploration conclusion (Africa Oil and Gas) - 64 (aog v12-24 26november-text____0023)
Oando previously bought Equator's debt and converted it to equity to gain a controlling interest. The government of Nigeria then returned the signature bonuses of US $161.7m for the company's 30% interests in deepwater Blocks OPL 321 and OPL 323 which have been the subject of dispute with the Korean National Oil Corp. That leaves Equator with a stake in JDZ Block 2 and with two option blocks in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Sao Tome & Principe.
29/10/2009 - Addax hits third gas giant in JDZ campaign (Africa Oil and Gas) - 128 (aog v12-22 29october-text____0001)
As previously disclosed, the Chinese firm is already looking at a possible LNG plant in Sao Tome & Principe but it is also possible that the gas could be tied back to the Marathon plant on Bioko Island. Sinopec is forging its way into the Brass LNG plant in Nigeria in order to commercialise Addax's gas reserves in the country but AOG understands that it has been advised to keep the JDZ gas away from Nigeria if possible to ease development. A methanol plant in Sao Tome & Principe is another option being considered.
15/10/2009 - Sao Tome LNG surfaces with wildcat gas duo (Africa Oil and Gas) - 192 (aog v12-21 15october-text____0000)
The results back up those from the only previous drilling in the JDZ, the Obo-1 well drilled by Chevron in Block 1. The well was drilled back in 2006 and discovered around 80-100m bbl of oil. At the time it was thought this would result in a pole development with an FPSO bringing in production from a series of smaller fields as is common in Angola. However, the well is also thought to have uncovered around 1 Tcf of gas.
17/09/2009 - Addax hits JDZ drilling problem (Africa Oil and Gas) - 64 (aog v12-19 17september____0029)
Addax hits JDZ drilling problem
Addax is being forced to restart its keenly anticipated wildcat in the ultradeepwaters of the joint development zone between Nigerian and Sao Tome & Principe.
The firm is using Transocean's Deepwater Pathfinder to drill the Kina well on Block 4. However, AOG has learnt that the company became concerned about a blowout due to high gas pressure last week - 10 days after spudding - and decided it had to start the ...

03/09/2009 - Fog to be lifted over JDZ reality (Africa Oil and Gas) - 64 (aog v12-18 03september-text____0028)
Fog to be lifted over JDZ reality
It's finally time to test whether the much vaunted prospectivity of the Joint Development Zone between Nigeria and Sao Tome and Principe is a reality or a mirage, with the second and third deepwater wildcats finally underway.
Chevron's Obo-1 well in 2006 gave off mixed messages as it was drilled off structure and the result was more gas prone than expected. What it did appear to signal though was that projects in the area may consist of several fields tied back to an FPSO rath ...
03/09/2009 - Make or break for Nigeria (Africa Oil and Gas) - 64 (aog v12-18 03september-text____0002)
While Nigeria has lain pretty much dormant for the last few years, the upstream industry globally and in West Africa has moved elsewhere. Angola continues to move from strength to strength and exploration from Ghana to Liberia is expected to open up new frontiers as is exploration in the JDZ and new pre-salt plays.
