Local snack food manufacturer Golden Enterprises Inc. reported a 193 percent profit increase during its most recently completed quarter.
Golden (Nasdaq: GLDC), which makes Golden Flake products, reported net income of $1.04 million for the quarter, or 9 cents per share, compared to $354,466 for the same quarter last year, or 3 cents per share.
Sales increased 9 percent over last year to nearly $32.6 million.
“The first quarter’s sales growth demonstrates the fundamental strength of our business model of maintaining profitable revenue growth in a recovering economy,” said the company in a news release.
Golden said it continues to improve its manufacturing process and remains committed to its sustainable initiative, Green is Golden, through a newly operational process water treatment plant.
“We will continue to economize, reuse and recycle to help the environment and Golden Flake,” the company said.
