Over 60 Million U.S. Adults Engaging in Health 2.0
Manhattan Research reports that the number of Health 2.0 consumers has doubled since 2007
The real power of electronic records and health information comes from patients being better informed and having at their disposal tools to better manage their own health with appropriate support, guidance and intervention from medical professionals.
Although just 9 percent of Americans currently have a universal electronic health record, a growing number support and/or are interested in such technology, so says a recent study by Deloitte.
Such a health record would make it possible for patients to keep a copy of their records with them as a data file when they travel, visited an emergency room, or met with a new physician.
In addition, the survey found that:
* 60% favor government legislation on how medical data is stored, collected, and exchanged.
* 42% favor government funding to help set up a universal electronic medical data system.
* 68% are interested in home systems that allow them to monitor their condition and share information with their physicians.
