Hydrogenics Continues to Advance Fuel Cell Bus Programs in North America

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO, Apr 27, 2009 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) --Hydrogenics Corporation a leading developer and manufacturer of hydrogen generation and fuel cell products, today announced that it has sold another HyPM HD fuel cell power module as part of the Federal Transit Administration's (FTA) National Fuel Cell Bus Program (NFCBP).

Earlier this month, Hydrogenics showcased its fuel cells at the NHA Conference & Hydrogen Expo in Columbia, South Carolina as part of the Proterra EcoRide zero emissions transit bus. The Proterra bus, which will serve the Southeast region of the NFCBP, utilizes two Hydrogenics fuel cell modules, as previously announced. At the NHA show, hundreds of participants viewed the Proterra bus - the first and only bus so far that has been built under the auspices of the NFCBP.

"The NHA Conference was truly a success in showcasing our buses and our partnership with Hydrogenics," said Dale Hill, Chairman, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Proterra. "We received a great deal of media attention, and the fuel cells have been running perfectly since being put into service earlier this year. In addition, testing at Altoona validated fuel economy in excess of 10 miles per gallon - double the efficiency of typical diesel buses. We will continue exhibiting across the Southeast and look forward to having more buses commissioned, with Hydrogenics fuel cells, later this year."

United States: Department of Defense Purchases 19 GenDrive Power Units From Plug Power

June 28, 2009 - Plug Power Inc., a leader in providing clean, reliable energy solutions, today announced it has been selected to provide 19 class 1 GenDrive fuel cell power units and two years of managed services for a demonstration project funded by the Department of Defense (DoD).

Plug Power's GenDrive units will be commissioned at the U.S. Army's Forces Command in Fort Lewis, Washington where they will power a fleet of sit-down counterbalanced lift trucks.
The two-year project will study and assess the use of wastewater treatment plant digester gas as a hydrogen source for fuel cells. The hydrogen created will power the fuel cell forklifts used for heavy maintenance work at Fort Lewis.

Five industry leaders will partner on the project:

-The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE)
-Plug Power Inc.
-Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.
-Gas Technology Institute (GTI)
-Proterra LLC: provide a fuel cell hybrid electric bus

This is the third in a series of Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) pilot projects that demonstrate the economic, operational and environmental benefits of powering material handling equipment with fuel cells. The projects intend to build a strong infrastructure for hydrogen delivery and refueling, while collecting the necessary data for a business case analysis.
