You may have heard about LandAmerica recently filing for bankruptcy protection for its holding company under Chapter 11. I wanted to provide you with some specific information about our company. First, LandAmerica is comprised of many legal subsidiaries and its status does not impact its underwriters, specifically Lawyers Title Insurance Company, Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company (including LandAmerica NJ Title Insurance Company) and United Title Insurance Company. Our underwriters are not in bankruptcy and continue to operate as we always have.

In addition, Fidelity has issued Reinsurance Agreements with our underwriters that are in effect during the transition period between the signing of the stock purchase agreement and the closing of the transaction. These agreements allow lenders to rely upon the underlying financial strength of Chicago Title and Fidelity National Title. They ensure that all title policies issued to and escrow deposits held on behalf of customers will be fully protected during the transition period. In addition:

Lawyers Title and Commonwealth have a combined statutory surplus of over $300 million.
Our claims reserves are backed by over $1.1 billion in cash and investments.
Our underwriters have the financial strength to back your orders.
We have some of the industry’s most stringent requirements for reserves in place to protect our policyholders.
If we are liable for a claim, we can pay it.
