Newfield NFX:NYSE investing in Woodford Shale right across the road from where MMTE is currently drilling on 1,400 acres.

By Bloomberg, AP, and staff reports
2/5/2008

Newfield Exploration Co. announced plans Monday to invest $460 million in southeast Oklahoma's Woodford Shale, where the company expects to drill and operate 100 wells this year.

The Woodford Shale is the largest area of investment for the Houston-based energy company, according to Newfield's 2008 capital program. The company says it will also participate in drilling as many as 70 other wells.

Tulsa-based Newfield Mid-Continent Inc. has 165,000 acres in the shale, concentrated in Coal, Hughes, Atoka and Pittsburg counties.

The company says it invests an average of $500 per acre and anticipates its gross production to reach 250 million cubic feet of natural gas per day by the end of 2008.

Newfield plans to spend a total of $620 million, or about 40 percent of its total 2008 budget, in the Mid-Continent region. It also drills in the Texas Panhandle.

Newfield Exploration Company - Strategy
The elements of our growth strategy have remained substantially unchanged since our founding and consist of:

• Balancing our efforts among exploration, the acquisition of proved reserves and the development of proved properties;
• Growing reserves through the drilling of a balanced risk/reward portfolio;
• Focusing on select geographic areas;
• Controlling operations and costs;
• Using 3-D seismic data and other advanced technologies; and
• Attracting and retaining a quality workforce through equity ownership and other performance-based incentives.

If you already knew the area was a plethora for oil and gas you certainly would be strengthening your position there.

Newfield Exploration Company is a pretty big player in the business.

Newfield Exploration Company - Mid Continent
(Anadarko and Arkoma Basins)

The Mid-Continent has been our fastest growing region over the last several years. We have been active in the Mid-Continent since 2001. Since that time, we have tripled our proved reserves and tripled our production from this area. With headquarters in Tulsa, Okla., this region adds longer-lived reserves, helping to lengthen our overall reserve life index.

The Mid-Continent now represents more than 45% of our total proved reserves at the end of 2007. It is our most significant investment region. In 2008, we plan to invest about $620 million in the Mid-Continent. It is a gas rich province characterized by multiple productive zones. Our two most active plays, the Woodford Shale and the Mountain Front Wash, are characterized by extensive prospect inventories and large acreage positions. We expect to drill or participate in approximately 200 wells in the Mid-Continent in 2008 and have a multi-year inventory of lower risk drilling opportunities.

The majority of the planned drilling is associated with the development of our Woodford Shale play of the Arkoma Basin of southeast Oklahoma. As of late February 2008, our production was 170 MMcfe/d gross. We will operate 10-12 drilling rigs throughout 2008, allowing us to drill about 100 operated horizontal wells. More than half the wells will have lateral completions in excess of 3,000 feet. Longer laterals help improve our per unit findings and development costs. In addition, we also will participate in the drilling of 50-60 wells operated by others. More than 165,000 net acres are associated with our Woodford Shale play.

We plan to operate a 3-5 drilling rig program throughout 2008 in our Mountain Front Wash play in the Anadarko Basin and drill 60-70 wells. Our production here reached a record level of 97 MMcfe/d in early 2008.

At year-end 2007, we owned an interest in more than 750,000 gross acres and about 2,600 gross producing wells in the Mid-Continent.
