American Electric Technologies Completes Power Retrofit for Hornbeck's Multi-purpose Supply Vessels (MPSV)

370-ft. service vessels among the world's largest

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--American Electric Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:AETI - News), the premium supplier of custom-designed power distribution and control solutions for the traditional and alternative energy industries, today announced its subsidiary, South Coast Electric Systems, L.L.C., recently completed a $300,000 power retrofit project for two, 370-ft. new generation DP-2 multi-purpose supply vessels (MPSV) owned by Hornbeck Offshore Services, Inc. (NYSE:HOS - News), a leading provider of technologically advanced, new-generation offshore supply vessels that regularly transport goods, supplies or equipment to support the exploration or production of offshore energy resources.

In an effort to support the marine and energy industry's emerging trend for more versatile and efficient vessels, American Electric Technologies delivered American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)-class generator controls and power distribution switchgear for two of the world's largest high-end, ultra-deepwater MPSVs. Hornbeck plans to use the vessels to provide traditional offshore supply vessel capabilities and support offshore construction, subsea well intervention, ROV operations, pipeline commissioning, pipe-hauling and floating accommodation services, to name a few.

Dan Gaiennie, Hornbeck Offshore's director of engineering, said, "We embarked on this conversion due to customer demand for larger, more versatile vessels. Likewise, we wanted a company like American Electric Technologies to supply the custom power delivery systems that enable that versatility. The company did a stand-up job with the delivery on this project."

In May 2005, Hornbeck launched the MPSV program to convert two coastal sulfur tankers with the help of Maine-based Cianbro Corp. and Bath Iron Works. The two vessels are unlike any vessel currently operating in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) because they were designed to have multiple U.S. Coast Guard and ABS-class certifications. The new MPSVs are set to deliver in 2008.

"We take pride in delivering such custom solutions for companies like Hornbeck, and we recognize our power systems are helping companies keep up with the industry's global regulatory requirements and certifications while supporting the demand to explore farther, deeper and drill faster," said Charles Dauber, senior vice president of marketing and sales for AETI.

American Electric Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:AETI - News) is the premium supplier of custom-designed power delivery solutions to the traditional and alternative energy industries.
