Walter Aviles is the key here. According to the wsj link I provided he 'was' the VPP of Sensable Technologies. Sensable was partly bought by Geomagic. That was later bought by DDD(3dsystems). His exit was a fact by then. With makes him still CTO of Novint. So much for the update.

Mr. Aviles was previously employed as Vice President-Product Development by SensAble Technologies, Inc.
So I believe Walter Aviles, owner of some the patents must be paid big on this sale.
I know that Walter restarted the falconarmy community website in 2015 (back down now) and oversaw the functionality of the Novint.com website. But why? They weren't selling any falcon's through their store because they were out of stock. my proof...
Tom Anderson still has a large stock of falcons selling through HapticHouse.com. His target is students and schools. He owns still a few millions of shares after he was stepping down from Novint. CEO Vissman who I never spoke is still listed as the CEO. But it's Walter that is doing everything.
The patent deal with FB is still interesting because I believe they are waiting to see how the VR/AR market is forming. Having touch added in a XIO way is very compelling. But first the headsets needs to improve and the virtual market needs to take off before launching, imo. In Q3 2017 1 million headsets were sold. And that is good news. Let's see what Q4 brings.
Novint still own the software drivers. Hardware patents sold to FB is nice and could been paid a few millions. Maybe I should look for clues in the FB filings. But I can't find that info.

To summarise, Novint (controlled by Walter Aviles) has the software and will be ready to benifit from this future with touch controllers. Having a more compelling VR experience and rocket VR in 2020. His latest patent is from 2016. So yes he is looking to fit Novint into this market, imo.
