Subject: Is Your Hospital Compliant With the Revised Joint Commission Standards for Pain Assessment and Management? | The Health Law Ticker

Here is a definitive entry point for approaching hospitals in the near future for evaluations. Especially seeking out the designated committee assigned to pain management which is mandatory in 2018 for them keeping their accreditation.

In the past, seeking non pharmaceutical methods was not a requisite. The Joint commission is a big deal in every hospital seeking or being compliant because keeping their accreditation status Is the holy grail. With opioids being in the hot seat now, they must purposefully seek out non pharmaceutical approaches to managing pain. Before, pills and shots were the accepted norm in their environment-not anymore and the liability exposure would be high in not investigating new approaches to managing pain especially CIPN. Because the hospital knows that chemotherapy and radiation cause neuropathic pain in over 40% of those patients which they handle and the pills are no "quality of life " or "a value based solution" based on the overwhelming evidence that exists today, the opportunity to "seek and discover "door Is wide open.
