Fuel Cells can only be used as base load, displacing cheaper, cleaner wind and solar. And Fuel Cells are too slow to be used in load balancing, peak shaving or other high-cost service. And forget economic dispatch.
And did you know that fuel cells produce tons of CO-2?
So I agree that fuel cells for power generation are moot.
Nat gas, wind and solar are our best, cleanest options for the time being, and I seriously doubt that fuel cells will ever be a viable solution.
