Firm hired by Clinton campaign tried to smear Trump with child sex allegations
December 11, 2017

The commercial research and strategic intelligence firm Fusion GPS has become infamous for producing the discredited dossier on the Donald Trump transition team’s alleged collusion with the Kremlin.

Now, it has been revealed that the group fabricated another campaign against the president — and it’s even worse.

The Washington Times reported on Sunday that Fusion GPS pushed a twisted narrative in 2016 that attempted to portray then-presidential candidate Donald Trump as a pedophile.

Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson recruited Vice.com reporter Ken Silverstein to run a story that linked Trump to Jeffrey Epstein, who pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting sex from an underage prostitute.

The aim was to link Trump to similarly soliciting sex from underage girls.

Silverstein Admits No Link To Trump

Silverstein, an investigative journalist who has reportedly worked on both sides of the political aisle, published the pseudo-report sourced by Fusion GPS on Vice.com. When asked by the Times, he defended the use of Simpson as a source for the story, but said Simpson does need to be fact-checked.

Silverstein said:

I have worked with them. I have gotten tips from them and stories from them. And every time I do, I go out and re-report…because I assume it is for a client and it is not 100 percent accurate.
And I’ve never gotten anything from them that was 100 percent accurate. Not because they were slanting or lying or twisting. Every time I’ve gotten something from them, “This is a report. You’ve got to check it out.” I have a great relationship with those guys.

Silverstein also admitted that Fusion GPS pushed him to write the story, and that Trump’s ties to any such scandal were in fact unsubstantiated.

“Since you asked, yes, they helped me with that,” Silverstein said. He added:

But as you can see, I could not make a strong case for Trump being super close to Epstein, so they could hardly have been thrilled with that story. [In my humble opinion], that was the best story written about Trump’s ties to Epstein, but I failed to nail him. Trump’s ties were mild compared to Bill Clinton’s.

Clinton-Epstein Connection

Former-President Bill Clinton’s had a well-established relationship with Epstein that far exceeded any minor social dealings that Fusion GPS asserted Trump had. Clinton rode on Epstein’s private jet, the “Lolita Express” at least 20 times in the early 2000s.

According to Fox News, the “Lolita Express” was often “reportedly outfitted with a bed where passengers had group sex with young girls.” Clinton has still never commented on the matter, though a bodyguard threatened to reveal the potentially lurid details in November.

But Fusion disregarded glaring Clinton-Epstein ties, instead focusing on the less salient Trump-Epstein relationship. The supposed-bombshell report rested on spurious links whereby Trump and Epstein sat in the same room together at a few dinner parties and hung out at “Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.”

This latest revelation showcases the level Trump’s opposition is willing to stoop to in order to take him down.
But with what Silverstein admitted was little-to-no evidence on the subject, they’ll have to try harder next time.

“I said Fusion could not have been happy with the Epstein story,” Silverstein said. “What I mean is that I never proved a really sleazy connection, so frankly I was disappointed too, I thought there was more and still wonder.”
