You attended the Elfstedentocht? Must have been in '85 or '86. I was there too in '85, was the first time since '63 there was an Elfstedentocht. I went there with some friends, not to skate but to visit. We went by bus the evening before with our backpacks. We stayed in a house nearby, so we left the bus before it was in Leeuwarden. I took my backpack and when I opened it after we arrived in the house I saw some skates and a big steak. It turned out someone else had an identical backpack and I took the wrong one. We exchanged out backpacks later, and the guy was so down, because he couldn't skate.
