The Canadian pot market vs. the Californian pot market ...

The current population of Canada is aprx. 35 million people;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Population_of_Canada

The current population of California is aprx. 39 million people;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California#Population

The stats show that the state of California alone has a larger population than Canada - and a potentially larger market for pot.

Even though California is on the verge of full scale legalization and is a larger population than all of Canada - why do the US pot stocks trade at a substantial discount to the Canadian pot stocks? (several of the Canadian pot stocks trade at multi-billion dollar market caps); the answer, I believe is the difference between the Federal & state(provincial) approaches & outlooks to full scale legalization.

In Canada; both the Federal & Provincial (state) govt's are in alignment with full scale legalization ... whereas in the US, the Federal & some state Govt's are aligned oppositely in regards to full scale legalization.

The discrepancy between US Federal & State govt's in regards to full scale legalization has fostered a great degree of doubt, uncertainty, and risk in regards to investor sentiment towards US Pot stocks when compared to the Canadian pot stocks.

A major motivating factor driving Canadian policy towards full scale pot legalization is to shift the wealth & economic activity from the black market into a white/blue collar industry - this Canadian approach appears to be paying major dividends even prior to full scale legalization; as can be seen in the multi-billion dollar market caps in several of the top Canadian pot stocks ... looking forward; it appears the Canadian approach will quickly transfer significant wealth and economic activity from the underground economy into the legitimate economy - creating a massive infusion of taxable income and wealth generation.

The Canadian pot stocks show the type of potential that could come into the US pot stocks when both the Federal & state govt's come into alignment on full scale legalization;
