Intel seems to have made a mistake on the pricing for Xeon SP parts.

I mean the product is fine, but the pricing and positioning really sucks. They are leaving room for AMD here.

Before, you could get fastest 2P at $4-5K. Now you need to pay $13k, if you want top performance with same maximum memory support as the Xeon E5.

The branding also sucks. It's logical more knowledgeable folks are responsible for buying the hardware. It's not like consumers where "Platinum" will magically make them gravitate toward it. They'll look at the specs, and price.

I put the blame on the new datacenter chief. Diane Bryant and Kirk Skaugen were much better. I hope Cascade Lake fleshes out the missing part, by having top performing chips at $4k like Broadwell Xeons did.
