IDCC's largest shareholder is Blackrock. I will speak about Blackrock, but this applies to other large shareholders. Blackrock holds the shares because they are in their ETF's. Therefore when IDCC's share price drops they will buy more shares to maintain IDCC's weighting in the ETF's. When the share price rises they will trim to maintain IDCC's weighting. Every time Blackrock opens a new ETF with IDCC in it they buy more shares and the process continues. I do admit that a 75% ownership limits the amount of new ETF's with IDCC in them.
