Liberal Pizza Parlor Goes Belly Up After Social Justice ‘Fair Wage’ Bankruptcy

Liberals are famous for scolding the business sector for being hateful to their employees and only caring about money grubbing profits and they always think they know how to do it better.

Well, the liberal owners of one pizza joint in Boston took matters in their own hands to create a business based on “social justice” policies and its failure after only two years is a perfect example of liberals being mugged by reality.

Hailing themselves as the most “caring” business owners in America, the shop’s absurd “fair wage” pay scale drove them into bankruptcy and forced them to close their doors.

The story of the “Dudley Dough” pizza parlor and its “pizza with purpose” was big news back in 2015 when the shop was showered with huge kudos for paying employees a “fair wage” — which was many times higher than the minimum wage.

Boston’s Haley House, a nonprofit organization, created the concept claiming that they were going to prove that the business community could run a successful enterprise with policies based on “social justice” principles.

Then they were mugged by reality.

According to the Boston Globe:

Launched in 2015, the fair-wage pizza shop will close at the end of the year, according to Bing Broderick, executive director for the nonprofit Haley House, which oversees the shop. While popular, the shop is not breaking even financially, which has put stress on the wider nonprofit organization.
Broderick added, “It’s not easy, but I know it’s the right decision. Everybody wanted it to work. We all invested a lot of our hearts in it.”

Someone should tell Mr. Broderick that his “heart” won’t create enough profits to keep a business afoat.

Silly liberals.

Despite the fact that the pizzeria was never able to turn a profit so that it could stay open, liberals in Boston are still claiming there they are not “looking at it as a failure.”

“I don’t think anyone is looking at it as a failure,” said Luther Pinckney, a team leader at Dudley Dough, which is in the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building. “It’s an experiment, and some very good things came out of that, such as skill-building for staff and being in this building at this time of gentrification and change in this community.”
Come on. Of COURSE it was a failure. It never made money. Businesses that don’t make money are not a success.

There is a reason that businesses offer employees a similar pay scale as other companies offering similar services. There are fairly indisputable ratios between operating costs and the profits that keep doors open and wages are part of that formula. Businesses aren’t charities. Their purpose is to make money so that everyone prospers.

The fact is, business owners pay what is considered a prevailing wage because it is the common wage that other successful businesses pay. Businesses don’t work to hurt their employees and those that do can’t get good employees and suffer for it as a result.

Isn’t it just like a liberal? To take reality, facts, and language and warp them to make them serve their idiotic agenda?

In the end, what we really have here is a perfect lesson in real-world consequences for actions. These fools thought they could waltz into the world of business with their unrealistic, socialist ideas and make a go of it just because they “feel” good about it. Turns out real life just doesn’t work that way.

But more importantly, it is another example that liberal ideas are bad for all of us, not just doomed pizza joints in Boston.
