I agree, as UOIP's lawyer pointed out it would be like any lawyer filing an appeal on their own without their client just because the loss didn't look good for them.

Did you also notice they included the the money they spent on lawyers for the IPR as damages? Absolutely nothing to do with the patent itself. It seems ludicrous to me but we will see what the judge says.
