What if there is no production.? What if it water? Then swabbing pulls water, Wright? Swabbing removes fluid from the well by lowering rubber cups on a wireline, then pulling the wireline back out . It is also used to remove fluid from a well prior to perforating to remove hydrostatic head and allow an underbalance perforateing job. This is done so it does not push foreign fluid into the zone but rather have the zone introduce fluids into the wellbore and clean up on its own. In other words, it is best to perforate a well underbalance to keep from damaging the formation. However, enough fluid needs to be left in the well to have some cushion. You do not want to blow the perforating gun up the hole and it get stuck due to wrapping around the wire line. You need enough weight to cushion the blow.

So swabbing come into play in many situations and really means nothing positive. It is just part of the process to test a well
