I'm new to pennies also. Hit the ask if you want to ensure your buy goes through, of course. If you think there will be some volatility that will enable you to get a lower price that's what you should bid.

What doesn't make sense for an individual accumulating a long-term position is to hit the ask simply to support the day's price. That seems to be what some posters think is a good idea, even for long-term buyers. I might have misunderstood, however.
