ADDRESSING QUESTION ABOUT POINT AND FIGURE CHART ANALYSIS

This post is addressed to this board and another where a poster asked a question about the status of NNVC on the P&F Chart. I prefer to post the response here.

1) Correct P&F charting is a volatility based filtering of the price data. Horizontal movement is based on meeting a price change requirement, rather than the passage of time, as is the case with conventional price x time charts.

2) Correct...it is possible to compute price targets with P&F charts based on the width of a price pattern.

3) It is not the case that all such targeting methods produce the same target.

4) The targeting method I prefer is the horizontal count on a one box reversal chart where the reversal filter is defined as the 20 period ATR. I find that adds an important element of consistency to the analysis.

5) Using hourly data a new sell signal is given by an hourly low that touches 96 cents and that would produce a downside target of 80 cents.

6) Using daily data there is not clear horizontal count at this time.

Hope this address your inquiry.
