Regardless of AMZN’s plans, I wouldn’t be interested in owning CVS or WAG. As US healthcare costs continue to rise, middlemen—including drugstores, distributors, and PBMs—are bound to get ever more tightly squeezed on pharmaceutical margins.
With respect to the so-called “front-store” (non-prescription) merchandise, CVS issues so many discount coupons that one can almost buy a suit in the time it takes all the coupons to print out.
