Yes, you have to buy in 1 day before the X date to be on record of owning shares by the record date. Last quarter they announced 7/3 with a x date of 7/5 meaning you had to buy in by 7/4. ETFS are tricky like that, not the normal 10 day lead time between announcement and x date.
