AMEN! Couldn't agree more. I haven't seen The Orville, but I'll have to check it out.
CGI has it's place, but just because it's as easy as clicking a mouse button, doesn't mean it should be used for everything.
I really noticed it with Star Wars Episodes II, and III. Entire scenes were nothing but CGI. It looked like I was watching a Sony Playstation 4 game. So many ships and explosions, and blaster fire, it was soooo overwhelmingly busy to watch.
Not the case with the original Star Wars Movie, when Industrial Light and Magic had to create a model of a ship to blow it up on screen. Kinda limits the enthusiasm for endless amounts of explosions. (which turns out was much better).
