Wowie: No fee beyond commission to trade TVIX. It's based on the front two months VIX futures contracts so VIX is a better indicator than SPX or another market index. The chart attached shows that except for the occasional spike up, TVIX is subject to murderous decay. So to trade it your timing has to be spot on. You mention that it's "...sitting at year (and) lows". Except for the spikes up a new year low comes nearly every week. If you buy expecting a zig and get a zag your account is wounded and if you hold hoping to be made whole later, your account dies. Be careful!
