CLARITY ON CARBON CAPTURE TIMING

FCEL mentioned on the conference call that their carbon capture pilot project at Southern Company's subsidiary Alabama Power’s site is entering the construction phase in 2018. The U.S. Department of Energy is providing part of the financing to allow the system to be tested on emissions from the coal-fired plant, while ExxonMobil is collaborating with FCEL on the natural gas test.

FuelCell Energy has definitive agreements with the U.S. Department of Energy to install a 2.3-MW fuel cell power plant configured for carbon capture adjacent to the coal-fired plant as the first of two phases. The second phase, which will follow this project, will involve installing 11 additional fuel cell power plants (a total 27.6 MW) to capture about 700 tons per day of carbon dioxide, while simultaneously generating 648 MWh per day.

FCEL’s and ExxonMobil’s proposed Fuel Cell Carbon Capture Solution is the only solution.....that produces power as it captures CO2 – instead of being a parasitic drain on the original power plant. Additionally, FCEL’s baseload power plants, and proposed carbon capture configuration, produce excess hydrogen as a byproduct of consuming natural gas. The oil and gas industry is the single biggest user of industrial hydrogen production.
