Simple, Less people shorting means the market sentiment may be changing. As the short numbers increase it means that more people are betting the stock price will go down. When the shorting stops and people begin to cover there is less downward pressure on the PPS. A net 500k of shares sold short were covered in the last two weeks.

Today's trading was positive but it is only one day. Good volume and we closed up. It is way to early to know if the rebound has happened but "hope springs eternal."
