Interesting ... so the book is probably real. Good find.

However, that doesn't mean that revenue to EGOH is going to be real, or if there is any, really substantial.

First, "acquired 25% of Leolah Browns autobiograph" is a very sketchily defined metric. 25% of what, exactly? The total (gross) sales of the book? That isn't likely. More likely, it would be of her royalty earnings. Those could vary considerably.

I'm not an expert on making money from books, but I did 'ask google' about it. There are three ways for an author to earn money on a book using the 'traditional route' of a publisher (plus an agent):

1. advance (which is of future royalties)
2. royalties
3. direct reselling (=buy book from publisher at 1/2 cover price, the resell on one's own)

Note: most of the revenue of a book sales goes to the retailer. The publisher might get $1 a book profit after expenses.

Typical advances are $5K-$10K, of which an agent might take 15%. I sounds like EGOH has managed to become Ms.Brown's agent for 25%. Many authors only see that advance, for actual royalties do not exceed the advance.

In ballpark numbers (from one googled website), an author getting 8% royalties, who made $50K from a book would be "doing well." If Oprah hyped the book, the author might see $280K. However, the odds of even "doing well" are not great.

But assuming the best, and even assuming the absolute best (=Oprah's blessing), 25% of $280K of the author's royalties is only $70K.

As mentioned, the odds of "doing well" are not great. Another website said that 70% of published books do not make a profit at all. At 10% royalties, if a book sells 10,000 copies at $10, that is only $10K for the author. Self ('indie') publishing is possible, but that isn't exactly an instant road to riches, either.

To quote a website's answer to 'why be an author' (if it doesn't pay well, per book), it said:

"being an author opens the door for other opportunities like speaking, training programs, and consulting."

So, if it comes, money comes later from 'other opportunities.' Did EGOH get a contract for 25% of Ms.Brown's future 'opportunities' as well?
