Oregon has fantastic new uniforms designed by three kids fighting cancer

Football fans are used to seeing Oregon’s team run on the field with exceptional uniforms that land all over on the aesthetically pleasing spectrum. Nike does a great job of shaking things up, and the Ducks’ recently released uniforms for their Week 2 matchup against Nebraska are as stylish as they are sentimental.

The Nike Vapor Untouchable uniforms – which are dominantly white with highlights of the Ducks’ traditional bright yellow – were designed by three cancer patients at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland. And they look incredible.

Thirteen-year-old Ethan Frank, who had a brain tumor, designed the jersey and the gloves, which are awesome and have the image of the Ducks’ mascot stomping down on the word “CANCER” on the inside and “OVERCOME” written on the knuckles.

In the video, Ethan said:

“This is the first time they ever put words on the knuckles, and I get to have my inspiration word on the gloves. I picked ‘OVERCOME’ because I had to overcome fears that people were going to go into my head and take out a piece of it.”

Ten-year-old Sophia Malinoski designed the helmets and the sideline and fan gear, and she was responsible for turning the second “O” in Oregon into the yellow cancer ribbon. Fourteen-year-old Joe MacDonald was behind the team’s pants, cleats and socks.

Joe, who’s a huge Oregon fan, explained his design for the cleats:

“The biggest design element on the cleat that relates to me, that tells a story, is the (camouflage) on the cleat – like the trees, the tram. They were able to bring it into the camo and make their own design to put onto the cleats.”

Simon Schama, the British historian, recently tweeted: “Indifference about the distinction between truth and lies is the precondition of fascism. When truth perishes so does freedom.”
