That's cool, but totality is an experience. All the sports events and concerts I've ever been to over the years were not each in and of themselves life changers and some might even have been a waste of time (David Crosby?). But I'm glad we were able to do it.
At totality you drop the glasses and can look directly at it. The moon's disc was striking as the blackest black I've ever seen, and crescent Venus was clearly visible as were some stars.
We watched it on the old family farm in Southern Illinois, no one there but relations. And unlike the people who had all jammed into Carbondale and Makanda etc. we had a cloudless sky.
