Yankees' Aaron Judge wasn't pulled to end strikeout streak, Joe Girardi says

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he did not remove Aaron Judge from the lineup Tuesday night to end his consecutive game strikeout streak.

"I think it’s a good thing that it’s over, yeah,” Girardi said after the game (via the New York Daily News). “But it was just getting him off his feet.”

The 25-year-old outfielder had struck out in 37 consecutive games coming into Tuesday night, but was 1-for-1 in the game with three walks and an RBI, and with the Yankees leading 9-2 going into the seventh inning New York didn't really need him to win the game. They went on to prevail 13-4 over the Tigers.

Judge was pulled for pinch-hitter Jacoby Ellsbury in the seventh inning, ending his strikeout streak that began July 8. In that time Judge's average went from .330 to .284 while he has struck out 63 times in 38 games.

Despite the endless headlines the streak generated, the Rookie of the Year candidate said it wasn't a concern.
