Costs: sampling vs. drilling

A paragraph, from J Briscoe's Linkedin pages.

Clearly targets can be refined, redefined and hence moved. They can be changed in surface area and shape throughout the sampling process, and the number of samples results in resolution of the true shape of the anomaly, including dead spots just as adding additional pixels adds resolution to your home television. This process is an industry standard: it is vital to be accurate before you start very expensive drill testing that will cost a thousand times what effective vegetation geochemistry will cost. We perfected this sampling technique at the Silverbell district in the 1990’s with one of the largest geochemical survey done in North America at the time (under great secrecy) and at the Pebble District identifying the existence of the East Pebble mineral zone before its discovery by Northern Dynasty, by drilling.

When you don't have the money to drill, do what you can do. In addition, to hold claims assessment work is required, so do what you must do. I find the additional assessment being done at Hay Mountain worthwhile, and have no criticism of JB for doing it.

It has been said here that the values of cobalt, REEs, and other unexpected minerals are no more than what would be expected in background values from worthless ground. I don't think that's the case. So far we have no evidence that there are commercial values of any of these minerals present. In this case more information is always of interest.
