Trump Hit In The Wallet As Palm Beach Chamber Of Commerce Head Urges Charities Not To Use His Club

The head of the Palm Beach Chamber Of Commerce is urging charities to not hold events at Trump's Mar-a-Lago private club in the wake of the President's support of white supremacists after Charlottesville violence.

The head of the Palm Beach Chamber Of Commerce is urging charities to not hold events at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago private club in the wake of the President’s support of white supremacists after Charlottesville violence.

Laurel Baker, executive director of the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce, told The Palm Beach Post, “If you have a conscience, you’re really condoning bad behavior by continuing to be there. Many say it’s the dollars (raised at the events) that count. Yes. But the integrity of any or organization rests on their sound decisions and stewardship. Personally, I do not feel that supporting him, directly or indirectly, speaks well of any organization.”

So far, the American Cancer Society and the Cleveland Clinic have both moved events that were originally scheduled to be held at Trump’s club. The American Cancer Society said in a statement, “Our values and commitment to diversity are critical as we work to address the impact of cancer in every community. It has become increasingly clear that the challenge to those values is outweighing other business considerations.”

The Cleveland Clinic has been under pressure for months to move their gala, and Trump’s defense of racism was the last straw.

Trump is turning businesses, charities, and the public against his entire brand. By the time he is finished in the White House, the Trump brand may end up being garbage. The best way to get Trump’s attention is to hit him the wallet. This president has unprecedented conflicts of interests, which present opportunities for people to voice their displeasure by not holding events at Trump properties.

Any business or charity that holds their event at a Trump property is supporting racism, and their brand name will be forever linked to the white supremacist supporting rhetoric of Trump. Any business or charity that values their good name should avoid Trump branded properties like the plague.
