...the article by Gottlieb clearly expresses that more study of determining the best promulgation by the FDA of how to reduce nicotine use and that more review needs to be done...

"As a first step, the agency is working on an advance notice of proposed rulemaking to obtain information relevant to reducing the nicotine levels in combustible cigarettes and to ask key questions related to the benefits and potential unintended consequences of such a policy."


there is nothing imminent about an FDA's decision... bureaucratic review on the subject will takes much longer than many on this board are suggesting.

IMHO...the Dent collaborative study was likely suggested to XXII by the FDA in support of XXII's urging of VLN standards that only they could produce.

The "unintended consequences" to which Gottlieb refers is lowering nicotine levels drastically, which in turn cause the smoker to smoke more to get the nicotine satisfaction so desired...thereby ingesting more, not less carcinogens and tars into the smokers lungs.


Meanwhile..."time" is a dirty 4 letter word for impatient SH.
