From experience I can tell you that when one "works hard," things get done one accomplishment at a time - no matter how small the accomplishment - at least you are moving forward to your goal(s); however, when even those small accomplishments are not met, (like the audit), like an engine things can stall for way too long and your greater goal(s) cannot be reached and success cannot be realized
