...there was a split that drove it to 8¢ but what has my hopes-up is the fact that after plummeting back down, it recovered to that high-point on its own!

There could be something TO these rumors.

I haven't loaded any more (and my million is a lowly 5000, now) but you are right when you say it's an old, old play!
