The price and volume DON'T tell the real story. Not necessarily, anyway. For example, what if we had this scenario:

Company tells 10 people what is going on, and nobody else. All 10 gobble up as many shares as they can, and none of them are talking about it. Stock goes up. 20 more people buy fairly small amounts simply because the stock is going up, but they know nothing and have no real faith in the company. Time goes by and no news. The 20 sell and the price crumbles. At that point the price is down, the volume is down, and the only people that know what is going on are all tapped out.

While extreme, I think this resembles the current situation.
