Trump has already asked his advisers about any limits on his power to pardon aides, family members and even himself in connection with crimes exposed by the Special Prosecutor, according to one person in the White House staff. A second staff member says Trump’s lawyers have discussed pardoning powers among themselves.
Trump also turned on his Attorney General, saying he never would have appointed Jeff Sessions to AG if he had known Sessions would recuse himself from the Russia investigation.
President Trump’s lawyers are also actively building a case against what they believe to be special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s conflicts of interest.
