I was never aware there was a difference (other than the misspelling)? I just remember that back in its heyday, everyone was trying to score one and be the first to claim it. As a result people were all the time posting and then add a "grub" at the end of the post to signify it was somehow a "grub"-worthy post. But, they would occasionally spell it wrong "gurb" or even "gerb" (think Buckey for instance) and it became kind of a joke. Anyway, that's what I've always thought...
