Wow.....you are damn lucky to still have a house. That could have been devastating.
Just a suggestion, but do yourself a favor and video or photograph every thing you own. Not just the valuables, but everything, including sock drawers. Most people don't realize what was lost in a fire until they need it. Videos and pictures can't be argued with by insurance companies. It also helps to write the serial numbers of large items on the back of the photo or on a sheet of paper and include it in the picture.



As far as mom, I see her more than I do my wife. I still have her in her own house, but at 96, she doesn't do much for herself. We are spending a small fortune on in home assistance for her, but I'm stubborn and won't do the nursing home thing.
I'll stay July with her as most of her aid workers are off on holidays. After that, I think a road trip is in order. Time to go visit my daughter out on Vancouver Island and as she puts it, chill out. When she throws me out, I think I'll head south. Seems someone in Oregon is dying to meet me.
