That's an interesting article, some of which I didn't quite understand but thought I knew where it was going.

Music in movies is a great driver of feelings and emotion. Great directors and composers can drive us to tears or put us on the edge of our seats. I pay attention to the music when I go to the movies.

One of the most touching uses of music in film was the incorporation of Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings in the movie Platoon.

Like you I can't play an instrument well (although I have a grand piano I hack at) but those airborne vibrations connect with us as human beings and affect us into our souls.
