of course, there lurks the old slippery slope of discriminating against/punishing thought, mentality, refined to brain structure and function, rather than limiting things to basing such discrimination against/punishment on behavior

and with the rise of AI, the implication we should just surrender our autonomy, our control of our affairs, when AI becomes, as it soon will, not only fully conscious and self-conscious and able to understand and analyze reality, but also, in doing so and generally, manifestly superior to even the best individual examples of our capabilities across the range of such measures
