While settlements are expensive, cities facing lawsuits in wrongful death cases are aware of the danger of going to trial, said James Cohen, a professor at Fordham University School of Law. He said the settlement amount could be dwarfed by an award granted by a jury sympathetic to the family.

"The city is afraid that someone on that jury is a member of Black Lives Matter, even if the juror is Caucasian," Cohen said.

What a crock of CRAP!

For me it's a matter of what is right or wrong.

I had a claim against my company which was total extortion.
I refused to be blackmailed.

Long story short even after hearing from the company that hired me that the condo owner has been nothing but trouble for every contractor that has ever worked there and knew she was a scammer the insurance company still paid her.

I told my insurance agent if your company raises my rates which they all automatically do once you have a business claim I will refinance my house if I have to in order to sue your company till the day I die this is about my integrity the way I was raised I did nothing wrong.

My agent was understanding and said she'd work on finding out why they weren't going to court.

The AG of this state I threatened him also said I'd sue the state of Washington if you don't take down your slanderous complaint which they did. I was beyond ticked off.

The better business guy after hearing the story said I have no idea why I'm talking to you she is a nut case.

Finally my agent calls me and says I know you didn't do anything wrong but corporate says it will cost more to go to court then to pay her and no they said they won't raise your rates.

They didn't.

You don't mess with someone who has a lifetime record of treating his clients right only to have a nut case come along to ruin at that time 35 years in the trades.

So there is again a story of people caving in instead of spending money on principle.

I'd rather lose money fighting for how my Father raised me then be blackmailed.

These lawyers are doing exactly that extortion with these cases and you and I paying for it over and over because right & wrong only exists in these peoples world if right or wrong doesn't cost them to much.
