Multiple Benefits, One Amazing Coating

Anyone that’s read our blogs and case studies for a while has heard of our powerhouse industrial product, Heat Shield™ EPX4, which is used for steam pipes, boilers, tanks, and similar applications. But we also have another amazingly effective product that doesn’t always get the glory.

Our Heat Shield™ Translucent PT product is used for many lower temperature applications, about 150F (65C) and below, when the application may not need the thickness of the EPX4. This product is our multipurpose insulation for all types of metal surfaces and packs its own powerful punch due to the excellent thermal insulation and corrosion resistance.

While the EPX4 is the “Boss” in boiler rooms and steam process applications, the Translucent PT is often the “Facility Manager” and can tackle many different insulation, corrosion prevention, and other protective applications over metal surfaces.

This unassuming product that is used on everything from food and beverage processing equipment to metal sculptures and handrails, was named “PT” for “Pipes and Tanks.” It does a whole lot more though…

Here are a few examples:

Hot Water Pipes: Hot water pipes are typically running at less than 150F, and the PT makes for an easy application with a standard paint sprayer, or brush if you’re in a tight spot.

Oil & Gas Pipelines and Storage Tanks: When it’s important to be able to do visual and ultrasound inspections of the surface through the insulation, the Translucent PT brought in.

These surfaces are typically being heated in the 150-155F (65-68C) range and just 6-coats of the PT provides excellent insulation, while also preventing CUI and allowing the surface to be visually inspected without removing the insulating coating.

Metal Buildings: Insulating metal buildings can be difficult. Often the material used is a polyurethane foam, which could possibly be toxic or flammable. The PT offers an excellent way to insulate the walls and ceiling while also preventing corrosion and keeping as much of the building square footage as possible.

Handrails - Benches - Tables - Slides: Have you ever burned yourself on a hot metal surface that the sun had heated up? Many organizations and municipalities have turned to us for help keeping things like outdoor metal handrails, benches, and playground slides from getting too hot in the summer sun. The PT provides an invisible protection that helps to reduce the heat from the sun for a cooler surface in the summer.

Fencing - Outdoor Structures - Sculptures: Any type of metal structure, whether it’s a large fence or metal sculpture, can suffer from corrosion and other types of heat and UV related weathering. PT is again on call to spray over the surface and provide multiple surface protection benefits.
