Public transportation is currently much cheaper than Uber and will probably stay that way IMO. A good portion of those who use PT are low income living near the transit routes. There may be some PTers who opt for Uber but maybe only by necessity. I'm not convinced that those who currently use PT will switch in droves to Uber type services.

Not true in big cities like Chicago, NyC, etc. where a lot of higher income workers ($100K+) take PT. Who wouldn't want to have their own ride vs. having to wait for buses, trains, etc. and then still having to walk to your ending destination and often in less than ideal weather.
