scstocks: Besides the gang bangers who will follow the new road to Myrtle Beach there will be thousands of retirees heading to the Carolinas. North Carolina has been the favored destination for many members of my extended family who have fled Illinois. There are more to follow. And we have friends who have relocated to Beaufort, SC and love it there. As for us if we stay in the country after retirement we're starting to look at land in eastern Tennessee, near Maryville and Seymour, not too far from Knoxville and their airport. Austin is getting too large, too crowded, too expensive and property taxes are on a trajectory that is not sustainable for us in retirement, especially if we're going to be gone 6-8 months a year house sitting all over the world. You can get a house on 10 acres of land with a view toward Smoky Mountains National Park for $250 K with property taxes of $2k a year. Just an option we're looking at. Depending on the outcome of the 2018 and 2020 elections we may not even be able to stay stateside after we retire. More and more states are becoming unlivable liberal hell holes. We lived in Oregon years ago when they had 2 moderate Republican Senators. That state has really gone over to the libtard dar side. We won't even go to the West Coast for vacations anymore. Whatever we decide to do I don't want to have any property that would keep us financially stuck stateside if shit really hit the fan. I sure hope all the road building plans don't screw up your corner of the world. I visited Myrtle Beach 30 years ago and couldn't believe the number of miniature golf courses. It's probably changed a bit. Newt time we visit our friends in Beaufort we'll have to take a road trip up there after we hit Charleston for a few days.
