I started Cegeny as a commercial entity now that I had a product. The shelter gave me the capability to introduce the materials to Hydro-Québec in order to homologate them.

A shelter was developed that was transportable by helicopter with equipment and ready to be put in service. The key of the success was the use of a conventional helicopter so to keep the cost as low as possible and the challenge was to build a monocoque that would withstand the forces required for flight. In order to achieve those requirements I designed the shelter in two separate units to be joined on site because of the 8’ x 24’ dimension required. The project was a success as far as the integrity of the structure in flight, the ability to receive the required equipment and make it functional as of its installation. The project took a little over two years and today they are fully functional.

Another project with Hydro-Québec came when their telecommunication department required shelters that could withstand an environment in which there was salt water, snow and great amount of humidity. Their conventional shelters (wood and steel) would only last ten to fifteen years, after seeing the success of the first project I was ask to design a shelter of a bigger dimension (12’ x 16’) also being able to withstand falling ice and large amount of heavy equipment inside (batteries). We had a three year exclusivity to supply Hydro-Québec Radio Mobile division.

Another important project that was developed was the monopoles used by Nav Canada at airports. This project was developed using the materials proposed for our towers, I am presently working on the development on the same type of towers using crumple zones for airport security. One of the projects that has started with them is the capacity to build tower extension using composite materials. This allows a steel tower to be extended without taking away the capacity of installing new antennas.

The design of the poles for electrical distribution was the result of the experience acquired while working with the electrical companies. This project was presented to Hydro-Québec and Bell Canada and they are now awaiting samples to be homologated. The design of the self-support tower has been finalized and is in the process of being detailed for fabrication and installation purpose.
