June 11-I am afraid I will lose CC the Calico Cat. She was herself Saturday afternoon when I left for home. This morning, she went to the dish of food I set out, turned up her nose, and wandered off. She didn't return to her nap spot under the patio umbrella when Danny and I returned from a visit to Home Depot. I placed the food dish out and she looked at and meowed at me. I tried again and she ran off under the umbrella. I tried to stroke her. I noticed she was salivating heavily. Then she ran off to sit under Danny's RV. I tried to coax her out but she wouldn't move. A few minutes later she wandered off and didn't return.
Rabies. Feline distemper. Heartworms. It could be anything that could affect a cat. If I find her tomorrow morning, I'll try to catch her, which won't be easy, so I can euthanize her.
I will pick 6 more green zooks tomorrow morning. The pickling cukes have grown large enough to harvest. I took a couple home.
The Valentine sunflowers will open soon. I counted a half dozen buds on a single stalk. Will it help attract more pollinators. One encouraging sign this morning was a butterfly visiting flowers on one of the Charentais cantaloupe vines. I see small flying insects inside the blossom. Maybe there will be enough visits for fruit set.
Last year and the year before I grew a few gooseberry plants. One volunteered and has already produced fruit. They're sort of sweet and can be made into a jam with the addition of sugar or honey. Not really a popular heirloom variety, although they're in all the catalogs.
Old Cadillacs never die. The finance company take 'em and faaaaade 'em away.
