PORTLAND, Ore. – A driver is facing DUII charges after he crashed into the back of a deputy’s patrol car on Highway 26, causing a chain reaction crash early Sunday morning.
No one was injured in the incident, officials said.
Deputies pulled over a suspected drunk driver at around 2:45 a.m. along Highway 26 near SW Camelot Court.
Washington County sheriff’s deputies said they were finishing a field sobriety test for the driver, Yash Desai, 23, of Portland, when another driver rear-ended one of the patrol cars.
Four vehicles, including two patrol cars, were damaged in the subsequent chain reaction crash.
The other driver, 61-year-old Earl Smith, of Portland was detained at the scene.
Desai was arrested on DUII charges, while Smith was booked into the Washington County Jail on DUII, Reckless Driving, Criminal Mischief, and four counts of reckless endangering.
Tests showed that both men had blood-alcohol content levels of .19 – which is more than twice the legal limit.
