Lampert's preference would have been for Sears to turn around on its own so he could make a big quick profit with minimal work and investment. I guess that would have been Plan A. He must be up to Plan J or K by now. He's owned Sears shares, some bought at $170 each, since about 2005. Furthermore he could have done just fine riding the soaring S&P 500 since 2009.
His involvement with Sears has been a monumental financial failure and a humiliation. BK would be a move of desperation. But he is desperate.
