When it comes to Shopify, I'm looking at three areas where the numbers are important to me.

Growing the number of new merchants is important, but finding ways to empower and support your existing merchants with strong customer retention is the most crucial aspect of the business, IMO. Eventually the company can/will use their existing merchants as a sort of force that sells the product/service for the company. If they don't offer it already, they could include a free month off for recommending to friends and family and seeing them sign up. Tapping into your own clientle is as a hell of a way to advertise if done right.

The second number I'm looking at is the overall amount of merchandise that's being sold each quarter and on a yearly basis.

The third number is the overall amount of $$$ that's spent by each merchant that Shopify sees as revenue. I can see this being increased with more services available, and through empowering merchants to go the next step with their business.
